The Reality of Health and Fitness: Looking and Feeling Good from the Outside In, and the Inside Out

Binging

This weekend, I stood with my foot on my knee (sideways stork style) in the kitchen and while I waited for my tilapia and broccoli to cook, I scraped whole-grain crackers across the top of olive-oil/flaxoil “margarine”; and when that wasn’t enough, I poured a layer of agave nectar, that had gone virtually unused, up in the spice cabinet, on top of the “butter” (still in the tub, mind you), and then scraped this on to the cracker.  This is actually the “healthy” version of my previous creation of Wheat Thins scraped across Smart Butter with honey.

Now, that I’m thinking about it, I have better ones to share but, alas, it is your turn!

Good one! I have been known to scrape a cracker or two across the top of my canola oil spreadable butter to accompany my soup, chili, etc. Ok, more that two. However, my latest binge, which I think I just remedied today, has been a spoonful of soynut butter with agave nectar or honey drizzled on it. If I stopped there, it would not necessarily be a “binge.” Unfortunately, that is usually not the case. However, I insist that if a 2nd or 3rd spoonful follows, and I am standing over the sink……that really can’t qualify as a binge either, now can it?

The remedy to this bad little snack habit? I decided not to keep a “back up” jar of soy nut butter in the cabinet any more. There is less than 1/2 of the jar left and that is just enough to spread on my whole grain/flax toaster waffle for a few mornings over the next couple of weeks and I will not allow myself to purchase any more in the meantime.

There, let’s see how that little trick works. And, I will let you know what binge snack has taken it’s place in two weeks.

  2. This sounds uncomfortably close to the concoction that we conjured up in the 2nd grade when left alone on a hot summer afternoon…peanut butter with corn syrup drizzled over the top!! ewww… well, fortunately my need for instant gratification has advanced a bit with healthier ingredients!
